Q: Is there a Ski school?
A: Yes, four! One in Maria Alm/Hintermoos, one in Hintertal, one in Dienten, and one in Mühlbach. They all have English speaking instructors. (Ski School Prices)
Q: Is there a Nursery/Crèche?
A: Yes, while you enjoy carefree hours on the slopes, your children will be well looked after in the kindergarten from 9:30-3:30. There is even a nursery half way up the mountain near Hintermoos, so you can ski in/out to check up on your children!
Q: What about Ski Rental.
A: There are lots of ski rental places, but the best prices can be found opposite Haus Salzburg, our guest receive 20% discount! (Call for more details - We can book you skis/boards and boots for you).
Q: Do I need a Car to get around?
A: Guests of Haus Salzburg don’t necessarily need a car for the skiing season everything you need is on your doorstep, for the summer a car is useful to visit local tourist attractions. Chalet Maria guest will need a car mainly for fetching supplies as the supermarkets are in the valley below, again in the summer you will need a car to visit the local attractions.
We can help organize, taxi, bus or train transfers – call us for more details.
Q: How big is the ski area?
A: Huge! - the local slopes have 150Km of skiing, 39 lifts. It usually takes a good skier a whole day to ski from Maria Alm to Mühlbach. If you get to the end and don’t want to ski back you can always take the free ski shuttle. If that isn’t enough the Ski Amadé ski pass covers 29 resorts!

Q: How much snow do they get?
A: Austrian ski slopes are grass fields in the summer, this means that with just a few inches of snow you can ski! Compare this to France where it is much rockier you usually need at least one metre of snow to cover all the rocks. This is why most of the French skiing is above the tree line. Maria Alm is in a ‘snow hole’ meaning that it gets unusually high snow fall due to it’s location, in fact Hinterthal comes in as one of Austria’s best resorts for good snow conditions. The ski season is usually mid December – mid April. Call if you have a doubter in your group, we can set them straight. Altitude isn’t everything!
